Objectives of the Course The general aim of this course is to enable pre-service early childhood teachers to understand the concept of Web 2.0 and its place in education; to evaluate the suitability of current Web 2.0 tools used in gamification, digital storytelling, presentation/design, classroom management, coding and robotics for the age and developmental characteristics of preschool children; to relate these tools to activities in children ` s cognitive, language, social-emotional development and digital literacy; and to gain competence in planning and implementing tool-based activities in line with digital safety and ethical use principles.
Course Content The concept of Web 2.0 and its place in education; technology use in education, digital literacy and classification of Web 2.0 tools; gamification and assessment tools (Wordwall), interactive learning and introductory coding tools (LearningApps, Code.org), digital storytelling and presentation tools (Story Jumper, Emaze), design, classroom management and coding tools (Canva, ClassDojo, Code Monkey Jr.), digital book and story creation tools (Book Creator, Story Book – Gemini), coding and robotics tools (robotics kit, Scratch Junior); integration of Web 2.0 tools into the classroom; applications supporting cognitive, language and social-emotional development and classroom management; coding, robotics and digital literacy; Web 2.0 tools in family involvement and communication; digital safety, ethical use and questioning whether a tool is truly necessary; preparing a Web 2.0 tool presentation and a preschool-level activity plan.
Course Methods and Techniques Lecture, demonstration, hands-on tool practice, question-answer, peer presentation, in-group discussion and activity plan preparation. Each student prepares a presentation introducing the Web 2.0 tool assigned to them during the semester and presents it to their peers. Each class begins with an introduction to the weekly content; therefore, students are required to prepare for each topic before class.
