Objectives of the Course
|
Foundations are institutions of social, economic, societal, and legal significance, both in Islamic and Ottoman civilizations and in our contemporary civilization. Due to this broad historical background, foundations are not subject to a single legal regime today. Some foundations are subject to the provisions of the Turkish Civil Code, adopted by the young Republic of Turkey in 1926. Foundations established before 1926, the majority of which were established during the Ottoman period, are referred to as "old foundations," and the rules applicable to them are particularly specific. This course will attempt to address old foundation law with a style, content, and scope that will appeal to all segments of society interested in foundations.
