Objectives of the Course The general objective of this course is to provide an understanding of the legislation concerning aviation security and safety, as well as its significance. It aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills required in areas such as airport security concepts; aircraft arrival and departure procedures; the security of aircraft, passengers, and baggage during these processes; handling incidents like aircraft hijacking, sabotage, and bomb threats; managing unruly passengers; assessing threat levels; applying physical restraints; and conducting aircraft security searches (ASSCL).
Course Content The general content of the course covers fundamental concepts related to aviation safety and security, national regulations governing these areas, and plans and programs concerning airport security. Students will learn to distinguish between safety and security, explore concepts such as safety, risk, hazard, and potential hazard, and identify factors that either diminish or enhance safety. The course also covers key aviation frameworks—such as the "Swiss Cheese Model"—and Safety Management Systems (SMS), while explaining how to develop emergency response plans and implement corrective and preventive actions. Furthermore, the curriculum addresses civil aviation security, security measures, in-flight security searches, the use of ASSCL (Aviation Security Search Checklist), responses to acts of unlawful interference, the management of unruly passengers, and the application of physical restraint.
