Objectives of the Course The aim of this course is to teach nursing students the fundamental concepts of biochemistry, the structure and function of biomolecules, energy metabolism, and metabolic processes. The goal is for students to be able to evaluate biochemical mechanisms in relation to health, disease, and nursing practices, and to strengthen their professional knowledge base.
Course Content The biochemistry course covers fundamental concepts of biochemistry, as well as the structures and metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, and lipids. Topics such as carbohydrate digestion, glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, the TCA cycle, the electron transport chain, and the pentose phosphate pathway are examined; furthermore, vitamins, enzymes, and the relationship between enzymes and diseases are evaluated. The course also focuses on bioenergetics, ATP metabolism, and the role of essential biochemical processes in the energy production and overall functioning of an organism.
Course Methods and Techniques Lecture, discussion, question-answer, case study, group work and assignments.
