Objectives of the Course The course aims to develop specialist understanding of research-informed materials principles and the ability to make defensible evaluation and design decisions. It strengthens critical analysis, contextualized adaptation, original materials development, appropriate assessment design, responsible digital practice, academic communication, and reflective professional learning.
Course Content This MA course explores principled evaluation, adaptation, and development of materials for language teaching. Students connect SLA research with learner needs, curriculum goals, and contextual constraints; evaluate coursebooks and digital resources; adapt existing tasks; and develop original materials with teacher guidance and formative assessment. Accessibility, intercultural representation, copyright, and responsible AI use are examined throughout. Assessment consists of a student-led seminar, a written midterm examination, and a final materials development project.
Course Methods and Techniques Interactive lectures; critical reading; materials analysis; collaborative evaluation; design workshops; peer review; student-led seminars; formative feedback.

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
NoLearning Outcomes
1 Critically evaluate principles of materials development by integrating SLA theory, pedagogical research, and learner-context evidence.
2 Develop and apply a context-sensitive materials evaluation framework, distinguishing predictive judgments from evidence of actual classroom effectiveness.
3 Adapt existing language-learning materials through justified changes to content, tasks, sequencing, and support for diverse learners.
4 Develop a coherent set of original language-learning materials, teacher guidance, and aligned formative assessment tools for a specified context.
5 Evaluate and responsibly use digital tools in materials development, addressing accessibility, cultural representation, copyright, and AI transparency.
6 Communicate and defend materials decisions in an English-language seminar, use peer feedback to improve the project, and critically reflect on professional learning.
