Objectives of the Course
This course aims to help students understand the fundamental principles and stages of design thinking and the innovative perspective it offers as a problem-solving approach. Students learn to analyze both everyday situations and design problems specific to their disciplines from a user-centered perspective and to apply this approach systematically. The overall aim of the course is to equip students with a problem-solving approach that stimulates creative thinking, supports the development of diverse solutions, and enables them to approach real-world problems from a critical perspective.

Course Content
The course covers the five main stages of the design thinking process—empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test—through examples, mini activities, and case analyses. Following the introduction of theoretical concepts, students work in groups on a design problem throughout the semester, conduct user research, develop prototypes, and test these prototypes in the classroom to collect feedback. In addition, individual assignments, field observations, and brief reflection activities are used to reinforce students’ experience and understanding of the design thinking process.
