Objectives of the Course The aim of this course is to enable graduate (Master’s) students to understand the phenomenon of globalization and its waves, the relationship between globalization and development, and the analytical approaches related to this subject. In this way, students will gain an understanding of the effects of globalization, issues of development and sustainable development, and the logic underlying the relationship among them.

The main characteristics of the course aim to strike a balance between two objectives:
(a) covering a broad scope by providing general knowledge about globalization and its historical waves, and enabling relational analysis by understanding the concept of development and the dimensions of sustainable development;
(b) limiting the length of the topics covered in the course in accordance with the time allocated.
Course Content Attendance in the course is compulsory. Attendance, participation, homework, and presentations are assessed together and transferred into grades. During the course, the historical development of globalization will first be discussed. Key concepts such as globalization, proponents and opponents of globalization, development, sustainability, and sustainable development will be covered. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed on the ethical framework within which publications related to the subject can be examined.

After learning the fundamental concepts up to the midterm exam, students will conduct article reviews related to the topic and deliver presentations in class during the second half of the course leading up to the final exam.
