Objectives of the Course The aim of this course is to teach students statistical analysis methods in the field of architecture and to enable them to use them in their research processes. This course aims to teach students basic statistical concepts, data collection methods, analysis techniques and statistical hypothesis testing. Students learn to choose the right data collection methods, analyse the data, interpret the results and make statistically correct inferences in their architectural research. They are also prepared for real world applications by learning the use of common statistical software such as SPSS. This course provides students with a solid foundation in scientific research in the field of architecture, enabling them to develop analytical thinking and critical evaluation skills.
Course Content Introduction to statistics, definition and purpose of statistics, importance of statistics in the field of architecture, steps of statistical analysis process, obtaining accurate and reliable data, analysis and interpretation of results, preparing a questionnaire, design and content of the questionnaire, application of the questionnaire and data collection process, other data collection methods, observation, interview, focus groups, one-dimensional distributions and frequency calculations, examination of the distribution of variables, The course consists of creating frequency tables and graphs, descriptive statistics and measures of central tendency, mean, median, mode and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, independent and dependent sample t-tests, chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U Test, basic use of SPSS program, data entry, editing and coding, performing basic statistical analyses with SPSS, presentation and discussion of students' research results, feedback from other students and discussion.
